vacation memories... Springfield, Illinois and a Great U.S. President

I have always thought that all men should be free; but if any should be slaves, it should be first those who desire it for themselves, and secondly those who desire it for others.  Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.  ~Abraham Lincoln

Our last day of vacation found us in Springfield, Illinois.  Our plans for the day were to visit the burial place of President Abraham Lincoln, and then go on to the Abraham Lincoln Museum

We made our way first to the tomb of President Lincoln, and it was a beautiful experience to be there.

You must remember that some things legally right are not morally right.

At the Abraham Lincoln Museum, photography was limited.  We were able to pose with the figures of the Presidential Family, which was pretty neat.

This is really a beautiful museum... with exhibits featuring Abraham Lincon's childhood and early family years, and highlighting his Presidency, through his assassination.  All of the figures in the museum were very life-like, making the experience powerful.

A neat feature of the Museum is Mrs. Lincoln's Attic, an interactive children's play area.  Hope particularly liked dressing up in the costumes, and Geoffrey built with (you guessed it) Lincoln logs.

I would rather be assassinated on this spot than to surrender [the principles of the Declaration of Independence.]  ~Abraham Lincoln

I leave you, hopeing that the lamp of liberty will burn in your bosoms until there shall no longer be a doubt that all men are created free and equal.  ~Abraham Lincoln
