A Little School Nostalgia

In our house, school-day routines are settling in, and it's hard to believe September is drawing to a close already!

Something about seeing Geoffrey in his dress uniform for school stirred up a bit of nostalgia in me.  He has just grown so much, and he is growing up rather nicely.

So, I found some old pictures of Geoffrey from early elementary school.  Just felt like sharing them today.

As I said, it is hard to believe September is nearly over, and I also know that soon enough we'll be looking back on this school year that has only just started, wondering how this year went so quickly.  That is just the thing about time, I guess.  It is always passing, and sometimes we just don't notice how quickly.  This sixth grade year will certainly be a year of much growth for Geoffrey.  As always, my prayer for him is that as he grows, he will continue to draw himself to the One who made him, and that he will become more of who God intends for him to be.

milestones

So today was what is called a "Big Day" for Miss Hope.  This afternoon, she experienced that milestone many of us females have been through.  That's right, Hope had her ears pierced today!

I had planned ahead and arranged for our visit to our local Claire's store to be a time when they would have two people available.  That way Hope would have her ears both pierced simultaneously.  Good idea, huh?  Otherwise, she would be too upset from the first ear to ever go through with the second one.  I did tell Hope the truth ahead of time... that, yes, it would hurt, but only for a moment.  Even knowing that it would hurt, Hope was still very excited to be getting earrings today!

Here is her "Before" shot--still smiling!

Okay, a little nervous now...
Grandparents, look away before the next picture!

This was the hard part... for Hope and for Mommy!

Even looking at her new earrings--pink hearts--in the mirror
did nothing to improveHope's pitiful expression.
Then, the clerk gave her a lollipop and she was again all smiles!

Looks gorgeous!

So, I called this post "milestones," meaning there was more than one milestone today.  The other was that Hope had her first ballet class today!  She calls it "Ballerina Class."  Cute!  Hope just naturally enjoys dancing, and routinely performs her own versions of ballet spins and moves at home.  So, to be taking an official ballet class is just SO exciting for her.  In fact, walking into class, Hope announced, "I so excited!"

Here are some highlights from today~

Hope's "Very First" First Day of School

Today was a big day!  Hope had her first day of preschool today, and she was very (I mean V-E-R-Y!) excited!  She has been waiting for this day to come since, well, since the day I signed her up for the class back in the spring.

Hope is not a child who gets up in the night... once she is in bed, that is where she stays.  Last night, though, imagine my surprise when I noticed her light on in her bedroom at 2:00 a.m.  That's right--2:00 a.m.!  Was the girl ready to start her day maybe?  I helped her visit the bathroom and then head back to bed, and she was back to sleep shortly, thank goodness.

So... here is what you are really here for today ~ the pictures!

Got to check the mirror after getting dressed...

Brushing her teeth...

Putting on her chapstick...

Waiting (impatiently) to go in to the classrom...

When dismissed from the classroom, Hope ran right over
to give me a great big hug!!

Can't wait to go back!!

Hope is normally a girl who loves to sing along to the music in the van as we drive place to place.  In fact, she asks me to put music on just as soon as we get in sometimes.  Today, though, as we made our way home from preschool, we did not listen to music.  Instead, Hope talked... basically non-stop.  She had lots to say about her first day, the friends she is making, her teachers, and the things she did.  "We played lots of things!" she said.

And, just for fun, here is a song that Hope loves to listen to... we of course watched this video this morning on my iPod, and Hope just laughed and laughed.

Hope often notices when someone looks happy, mad, or sad.  She'll say, "You/he/she look like..." and then add the feeling she sees.  This morning, I said to Hope, "You look like happy!"  She replied, "Yeah!  I am!"  Good for you, Hope!  Your family is so proud of you!

Not a Hair Blog: Pink Yarn Twists

So, I just have to share these super cute pictures of Hope's new hairstyle.  Over the weekend, I put in two-stranded rope twists with the special touch of adding pink yarn to each twist.  Adorable!
